Day 21: Polanco to Cobreces

(Right) Onwards ever onwards!

Pilgrims used to shout "Ultreya!" which is untranslateable but means "Courage!" or "Keep going" or "Cheer up!"

The Church at Barreda (below)

It developed into a very hot sunny day

Interesting bell tower en route to Santillana

Steep street in the old village of Santillana del Mar

12th century Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana

Unfortunately the Church closes from 11:30 to 16:00 so I was unable to enter

But the cloister was open. Here I discovered a scallop shell embedded in the floor

Pillars of the cloister

The pillars were ornately decorated
