Day 29: Valdedios to Gijon



Some pretty cows watch curiously as I pass by (top)

From Valdedios the route has to be retraced back to where the camino branched (right)





This was a very long and very steep climb on a very hot day!





But the resulting views were staggering and this was probably the highest I had been on the camino.
These views look inland towards Valdedios (top & left)





Here the sea and Gijon can be discerned in the distance ....

... but notice there is a sizeable ridge between the valley I am about to cross and Gijon, my destination



The sea has now disappeared behind the ridge and in the centre can be made out a white blob (top)

This is the Church of Santiago at Peon (right)





Having crossed the valley and walked over the ridge, Gijon now lies below





Gijon center was still an hour away at this point. The temptation to take a bus was almost irresistable
