Day 29: Valdedios to Gijon |
|||||
![]() Some pretty cows watch curiously as I pass by (top) From Valdedios the route has to be retraced back to where the camino branched (right) |

![]() This was a very long and very steep climb on a very hot day! |
![]() |
![]() But the resulting views were staggering and this was probably the highest I had been on the camino. These views look inland towards Valdedios (top & left) |

![]() Here the sea and Gijon can be discerned in the distance .... |
![]() ... but notice there is a sizeable ridge between the valley I am about to cross and Gijon, my destination |
![]() The sea has now disappeared behind the ridge and in the centre can be made out a white blob (top) This is the Church of Santiago at Peon (right) |

![]() |
![]() Having crossed the valley and walked over the ridge, Gijon now lies below |

![]() Gijon center was still an hour away at this point. The temptation to take a bus was almost irresistable | |
