Stage 1 - León to Buiza

The Camino starts to the right of San Marcos, following the aptly named Avenida de los Pergrinos. This is the first yellow arrow, some way down the road.

These brown marker posts have been put up recently by a consortium of the local consejos. They are well placed and very useful until you get to the top of the hill beyond Buiza.

A wall marker, also put up by the Cuatro Valles

... and a useful map of where you are going.

The restaurant "El Palacete" just the right distance from León for a first cup of coffee

Good to be on a "camino de tierra" complete with brown marker post

Occasional wooded sections

and some reassuring yellow arrows

Good views over the Benesga valley

An unmarked cross

Very large thermoelectric plant on the outskirts of La Robla (La Union Fenosa)

A small wayside chapel, almost surrounded by the factory

Coat of arms over the doorway

Virgin and child behind the altar

Leaving La Robla before dawn

Pereedilla

Ermita de Bun Suceso, just outside Pola de Gordón

Crossing the RÍo Bernesga

|Huge works for the new AVE high-speed train line from León to Oviedo

First view of La Pola de Gordón

Meson del Antonio at the main crossroads has a good menu del dia. You need to take food with you when you leave Pola de Gordón, since there are few places to get food in the next two days
